Educational Philosophy

My role as a teacher is as a PROVIDER of knowledge in forms of pure facts and in ways of creating opportunities for students to find knowledge themselves. Next, I am an OBSERVER making sure that learning is taking place and that I am aware of the best way to use it. Then, I am a FACILITATOR. I make use of the interaction I observe in the classroom to further students in teaching other students. Finally, I am the MODERATOR. I will guide the students through their own interactions in class to optimize learning.

The art room reflects my philosophy and hints to the students what they may be expected to learn. The atmosphere of the art room should be conducive to learning, allowing the students to feel safe both physically and mentally. Tools such as computers, educational videos and games, magazines, and books must be provided for children to explore and research their journey. Supplies should be visible in the art room. Imagine walking into a candy store and your mouth waters. The art room should induce the creative juices to flow.

The creative mind is a thinking mind. Art provides more than one right answer encouraging more questions. It opens doors to other cultures through one photograph or one piece of artwork. Art provides tools for everyone to learn, grow, and enrich their lives. I believe it can boost self-confidence and self-image increasing performance in other classrooms and other aspects of life.
